Out four days in a row this week.

Monday evening saw yours truly at the Tate Modern sneering at the Dali Exhibition, and Tuesday shared a mediocre Merlot courtesy of Pizza Express and an excellent Pinot Noir at Wine Wharf with Hypnotherapist Ralf.

Wednesday was Iggy Pop down the Royal Festival Hall which, as pantomime has never been my favourite art-form, the Indy and Standard liked more than I (Iggy Pop doing an Iggy Pop impression of Iggy Pop iyswim).

Finally, the punktastic
Gallows
put on a storming set on Thursday where the fourth pint talked me into catching a stage-diver with my rib-cage, we never did work out what happened to Lawnmower Death and failed to settle the "Who would you rather have a beer with,
Tony Blair or Margaret Thatcher" argument.

But on to the music which, I suspect is why you're here. First up, we've got mates of a mate Some Dogs and their album Spilling Whiskey On The Floor.

Never heard of Some Dogs? They're a bunch of 30 and 40 somethings underneath whose fine upstanding "piller of the community" facade lies a rich seam of musical debauchery.

Bottom line, this is a CD of country standards played, extremely well, at 150 mph (or 241.4kph if you prefer)

Sunday Morning Coming Down, Good Girl's Gonna Go Bad, Sylvia's Mother, Take This Jon and Shove It, Kiss The Children, Galveston, Tennessee Flat Top Box, Ode To Billy-Joe, Good Ol' Boys, Promises, Country Girl, Convoy, Stand By Your Man, Ring Of Fire.

To obscure for you? Hows about some proper, genuine Art (with a capital "A")

Stephen Vitiello - The Smallest Of Wings

Photo courtesy of London Daily Photo

To quote the blurb . . .

Presented outdoors in Broadgate Arena, a terraced public space near Liverpool Street Station, Stephen Vitiello’s The Smallest of Wings will be staged in the heart of the City. Vitiello’s piece, which will run continuously for the duration of the installation, will create an environment of sound built on field recordings of bird and moth wings from locations including the Amazon, upstate New York and Virginia.

As visitors walk through Broadgate Arena, they will experience a three dimensional audio environment. A 22 speaker, multichannel sound system, designed by Arup in collaboration with Vitiello, will be housed in an open air, geodesic dome, immersing visitors in Vitiello’s work.

Sounds a bit poncy? Give it a try, 16.03 minutes of humming-birds and moths. It doesn't get more ambient than this!

And now for something completely different

ABC : The Lexicon Of Love

Not my favourite album when it came out (I still preferred my music to start off "ONETWOTHREEFOUR in those days) but after dipping into Simon Reynolds excellent Rip It Up and Start Again I gave it a serious revist.

Some random factoids courtesy of Mr Reynolds . . .

1) Trevor Horn called in to produce on the back of his work with Dollar
2) "Many Happy Returns" quotes The Zombies "She's Not There"
3) Gold Lame suits courtesy of a "very camp tailor down Carnaby Street who used to make clothes for Marc Bolan
4) The album is about Martin Fry getting dumped by this girl. When recording, they actually got her in to do the "Goodbye" bit on "The Look OF Love"
after Martin sings "When the girl has left you out on the pavement" (1.07 mins in)
