Sunday, November 18

Off to The Macbeth, a Shoreditch boozer so trendy it doesn’t have its own website Friday week (double JD in a pint glass filled up with coke for £4.60, large bottles of Budvar £3.90), then caught the last knockings of The Rake’s late nighter down the SEOne club (moody bouncers, poor turnout, no atmosphere, Double JD&C in a half-pint glass £7.50).

Tuesday off to the grungtastic Raveonettes gig at Kings College with UBS Dave (pint of Kronenberg £2.50ish) . . .

. . . and then rounded the week off with a disappointing UNKLE gig down the Roundhouse (techo-dance outfit stray into heavy metal territory when playing live shlock horror cf Moby and The Prodigy, Kronenberg @ £3.60) . . .

Carrying on from last week, I bring you more Alabama 3, this time the original (ie pre-Sopranos) CD Single of “Woke Up This Morning” with five mixes for you to enjoy.

Alabama3 - Exile On Coldharbour Lane (@256kbps)

Everyone’s favorite Gospel Country Blues Techno outfit came out with this debut album in 1997, gigged pretty heavily on the back of it as I remember, faded into fondly remembered obscurity, re-entered the public consciousness when “Woke Up This Morning” was picked up by HBO as the opening music to The Sopranos and promptly faded back into, er, fondly remembered obscurity.

1.  Converted
2.  Speed Of The Sound Of Loneliness
3.  Woke Up This Morning
4.  U Don't Dance 2 Tekno Anymore
5.  Bourgeoisie Blues
6.  Aint's Goin' To Goa
7.  Mao Tse Tung Said
8.  Hypo Full of Love (The 12 Step Plan)
9.  The Old Purple Tin (9% Of Pure Heaven)
10. Teh Night We Nearly got Busted
11. Sister Rosetta
12. Peace In The Valley

Altogether now . . .

You don’t dance to techno anymore
I don’t see you under the strobe light on the dance floor
It’s been a while since I saw you’re ultra-violet smile
You don’t dance to techno anymore
