Birdland : Hollow Heart 12", Sleep With Me 12", both Vinyl Rips

Fast forward from early 80's reggea to late 80's indie.

Just when that Nirvana album and the Stone Roses eponymous were redefining our listening tastes, a group of peroxide poppets from the Midlands decided to retro us back to the New York Dolls, Hollywood Brats, Hanoi Rocks school of loud, fast and outrageous.

Problem was (of course) that we'd heard the riffs and seen the attitude before . . .  many a time.

Mind you, they had a good line in graphic design.

Hollow Heart's side 1 gives us three numbers, by the sounds of it, all done in one take a la The Ramones but without the "ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR" that would have allowed me to split it up for you. So it's three tracks in one iyswim.

Nonetheless, it's an enjoyable shouty racket.

Sleep With Me is their best known, probably reached the nether regions of the charts (but I can't be arsed to find out) and this time, is a well produced enjoyable shouty racket.

Twickenham Alan reckons I swerved catching them down the Marquee, but I definately caught them being blown off-stage by support act Carter The Unstoppable Whatsit down the Brixton Acadamy . . .
