Peter Wyngarde : When Sex Leers Its Inquisitive Head @ 256kbps

A 36 minute (or 67mb if you prefer) master-piece of "fine, pseudo-psychedelic orchestrations and impeccable bad taste." (NME - 1970) by one of the most iconic actors of the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Withdrawn a week after issue, an album with lyrics such as . . .

Billy was a queer, pilly, sexy Hippy,
He wore gear - frilly, hairy, zippy.

or . . .

In Germany it isn't always remembered,
What with Liszt, Wagner and Tannhauser,
The rape is synonymous with whips, bunkers and Mauser.

. . . cannot simply be categorised as “so bad it’s good”, in true
Spinal Tap fashion, the Kitch Factor goes up to 11 on this one.

1  Come In
2  You Wonder How These Things Began
3  Rape
4  La Ronde De L'Amour
5  Jenny Kissed Me
6  The Way I Cry Over You
7  Unknown Citizen
8  It's When I Touch You
9  Hippie and The Skinhead
10 Try To Remember To Forget (Riviera Cowboy)
11 Jenny Kissed Me And It Was...
12 Widdecombe Fair
13 Neville Thumbcatch
14 Once Again (Flight Number 10)
15 Pay No Attention

One of the main and salutory effects of the music blog explosion is the realisation that no matter how complete you think your knowledge is of a given genre or time period, there is a good chance that you will discover literally hundreds of albums you never knew existed! Kinda astonished I have never seen this album doing the rounds, especially as its compilation tape/record/cd gold.

"Billy was a queer, pilly, sexy Hippy, He wore gear - frilly, hairy, zippy"

Makes Coleridge seem like Pam Ayres, utter deranged genius.
