Otway & Barrett : Deep & Meaningless
This is the guy with a fan base so dedicated that they not only managed to vote "Beware Of The Flowers 'Cos I'm Sure They're Going To Get You Yeah" the seventh greatest lyric of all time in a BBC poll but also conspired to buy his new single in the same week to ensure a chart entry and subsequent appearance on TOTP for his 50th birthday.
This is the legend who broke up with his then girlfriend Paula Yates with the words ''That's the last time you'll be going out with a rock'n'roll star! ''
So how many times have you seen John Ottway?
Remember Reading '78 when he swung across the top of the lighting gantry?
What about that ULU gig in 1990, Ride were headlining the main stage, someone got a round in at the back bar (3 pints of Directors and a diet coke for Vanessa 'cos she was driving, total cost £2.14 - piss cheap even then, ended up so wankered I almost fell off Hungerford Bridge walking back to Waterloo) and noticed a guy with guitar playing over in the far corner to the general disinterest of the shoegazers . . . "Hang on, that's John Otway innit?".
Totting it all up, it's knocking on for a dozen times now and pretty much every time something's happened to write home about.
The guy's still reguarly gigging , I'll possibly be down the Half Moon for the 9th Sep but deffo be at the 100 Club on Friday 19th Oct to see him and Wild Willy (tho' £17.50's a bit steep John!).

John Otway is one of the (almost) unsung heroes of the live music scene - it's great to hear this share and it'll be greater still to hear him again live soon. :-)

Nice Otway stories - if you have more albums, feel free to post 'em.
